First, lets start with the facts. Midwest Adventures, LLC. stresses that no matter how
safe you attempt to be in the outdoors, there may be serious injuries. Many times the
injuries and causes are beyond your control and/or not even associated with the activity
such as rock falls, hypothermia, and car accidents.

With that being said, we run a caving class for beginners with safety and fun being
the utmost concerns. Safety, safety, safety are the three most important aspects for all
new cavers. The cave is a fascinating environment but it is also a remote place. Cavers
who do not put safety first may find themselves on the receiving end of a long and exhausting
rescue effort.

Basic classes involve caves with a healthy mix of walking, crawling, and plenty of amazing
discoveries. The trips are typically a few hours long and located about 1 hour outside of
Indianapolis. Caves in Indiana maintain an average year-round temperature in the mid-50's
so they make a very comfortable winter outdoor adventure. The caves we visit are not tourist
spots and have no developed trails. The beginner classes will visit smaller caves that are
typically mapped and easy to navigate and with few side passages. Intermediate classes may
visit more complicated caves that are mostly mapped and may have some vertical relief requiring
some rope-assisted climbing. Intermediate cavers can expect to get wet and very muddy. Advanced
classes may include trips into pit-caves requiring experience on vertical rope climbing and
rappelling, underground waterway kayaking, non-mapped cave exploration and occasionally being
the first groups to ever visit portions of unknown reaches or entirely unknown caves. All cave
trips are located in Indiana.

Students must show adequate competency on previous trips to earn the privilege to attend a more
advanced class trip. This is entirely up to the discretion of Midwest Adventures, LLC.

Our focus is on youth and youth groups. We encourage church groups, school clubs, Girl Scouts, Boy
Scouts, and all other groups and individuals to take a trip under Indiana. Contact us
to set up a plan for your group.
